Abstract

India's gig economy is transforming employment, driven by tech advancements, smartphone growth, and shifting work preferences. This study explores the gig economy's concept, challenges, government policies, and tech's role, focusing on urban India. A quantitative survey of young adults and students reveals gig work offers flexibility and extra income but also insecurity, unstable income, and lack of social benefits. Digital platforms like food delivery and ride-sharing dominate, with awareness spread through social media. The study concludes that while the gig economy grows and creates jobs, strengthening policies, awareness, and social protection is crucial for sustainability and inclusiveness.
