Abstract
In today’s digital era, cybersecurity plays a vital role in safeguarding systems, networks, and sensitive data as organizations increasingly depend on interconnected technologies. With the growing use of connected digital systems, cyber threats are becoming more frequent and complex in nature. This research is based on a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) that examines studies published between 2020 and 2025 from major academic sources.
The study highlights major challenges including increasing cyber attacks, data privacy concerns, shortage of skilled professionals, and security risks in emerging technologies such as AI, cloud computing, and IoT. It also discusses important controversies such as privacy versus security, ethical hacking practices, government surveillance, data ownership, and cyber warfare.
The results identify key research gaps, including the need for improved real-time threat detection, standardized global cybersecurity policies, and ethical use of AI in security systems. The study suggests that a combination of advanced technologies, strong regulations, and user awareness is essential to enhance cybersecurity and address future digital threats. The study also provides future research directions to address evolving cyber threats and strengthen digital security infrastructures.
