Abstract
Organizations increasingly face volatile markets, abundant data and pressure to decide quickly. Artificial intelligence (AI) is widely presented as a way to meet these demands, yet the scholarly picture of how it affects management is spread across many sectors, methods and vocabularies. This conceptual study synthesizes twenty recent sources on AI in business management and decision-making in order to explain how AI is linked to innovation, operational efficiency and competitive advantage. Using a structured narrative review, the paper identifies five recurring themes: the improvement of decision quality and speed, efficiency gains from automation and prediction, AI-enabled innovation and new business models, the strategic alignment of AI with organizational goals, and the ethical and governance conditions that determine whether benefits last. Building on these themes, the paper proposes an integrative framework in which AI capabilities influence decision processes, decision processes generate efficiency and innovation, and these outcomes support competitive advantage, with strategic alignment, human–AI collaboration, organizational readiness and responsible governance acting as conditioning factors. Six propositions are advanced for later empirical testing. The paper contributes a consolidated reading of a fragmented literature and offers practical guidance for managers, while acknowledging that its conclusions rest on the reviewed sources and require validation in future studies.
