An Analytical Review of Blood Doping and Anti-Doping Measures in Sports

Abstract
The use of performance-enhancing methods and substances threatens the integrity of sporting competitions and negatively impacts the spirit of healthy competition worldwide. Blood doping is a prohibited practice that involves artificially increasing the number of red blood cells in the body to enhance oxygen delivery to muscles. This process can improve an athlete's endurance, stamina, and overall performance. However, blood doping poses serious health risks and may lead to life-threatening complications. Some of the major adverse effects include increased blood viscosity, heart attacks, blood clots, stroke, infections, allergic reactions, and the transmission of blood-borne diseases such as HIV and hepatitis. The regulation of doping in sports is governed by various anti-doping organizations and sporting authorities. In some cases, anti-doping policies established by sports governing bodies may differ from national laws and legal frameworks, creating challenges in enforcement and compliance. Furthermore, advances in doping techniques and the development of new performance-enhancing substances have made detection increasingly difficult for experts and regulatory agencies. Despite these challenges, combating doping remains essential for protecting athletes' health and preserving the credibility of sports. Continuous research, improved testing methods, athlete education, and updated anti-doping regulations are necessary to address emerging forms of doping and ensure fair competition. Promoting awareness and strengthening anti-doping efforts are crucial steps toward maintaining integrity, equality, and ethical standards in sports.
